2026 YOUTH CULTURAL EXCHANGE TO GHANA

Empowering Travels and Tours is happy to be working with Afripeace Development Foundation once again to provide the Youth Cultural Exchange to Ghana

This will be the 9th tour for this program.

Is a nonprofit organization located in Sacramento, California.

That was established in 1999, and dedicated to promoting Africa-US relations through peace education and people-to-people / cross-cultural exchanges, as well as youth leadership and community development. It is incorporated in the State of California and registered as a US tax exempt(501 (c)(3) organization.

Purpose: To promote youth leadership through global education and peace exchanges between the US and African youth and a cultural immersion experience in Africa/Ghana for the US team, via conflict resolution and problem-solving activities, educational instructions, peer dialogues and social interactions, community service projects, and language and cultural experiences.                        

High School students, age 14 to 18, 9-12th grades or recent High School graduate at the time of travel in summer 2026

Complete and submit the application form, with a 

1. One-page letter of interest which includes your personal/academic background, your reason(s) for applying to the program.
2. Explain how you plan to apply and share your experience from the program with others such as your school and community.
3. A letter of reference from your teacher, pastor/organization leader.
4. A picture of yourself.
5. Application fee of $25 application (non-refundable).
6. Applications should be submitted by November 30, 2025, earlier registration has a higher chance of acceptance into program.

Selected candidates must attend approximately 4-5 pre-trip orientation sessions and a conflict resolution workshop. More details will be presented at pre-trip orientations; Date to be announced .

Trip Cost: $5400.00

Participants are expected to pay fees, raise funds, receive donations and or scholarships of $5400.00 toward the Trip Costs.

Trip Includes: 

1. International airfare roundtrip from Sacramento/San Francisco to Ghana.
2. All breakfast meals.
3. All dinner meals.
4. Hotel/Resort lodging.
5. Group admission into museums, parks, and slave castles.
6. Ground transportation and local guides in Ghana. 

Final payment due: 60 days before departure, Churches, businesses, organizations, philanthropists, and schools are invited to sponsor participants.

There maybe some grants to help cover some cost for this trip. We will be working with parents and students on various fundraising activities.

Additional personal expenses not included: 

1. US Passport 
2. Ghana Visa
3. Vaccinations, 
4. Travel/medical insurance 
5. Lunches in Ghana. 

The project will be directed by the Afripeace Chairman, Dr. Ernest Uwazie, and Ghana Program Director Ms. Karen Green,  In addition, there will be 2 - 4 US trained adult/teacher guides before and during the trip to Ghana, plus an experienced Tour Guide in Ghana. 

•  Every time I think of Ghana, it brings a huge smile across my face. Reflecting back, it is one of my favorite memories.
• I’m glad to be home, but also sad to have left my “Ghana group family.” I know that this trip will always be special to me and will encourage me to travel more in the future
• It has made me fall in love with Africa, and the emotional complexities it thrusts upon me. Ghana has inspired me to become a citizen of the world.
